Books on Drupal
There are a few books on Drupal and they range from everything for the beginner to everything for the advanced. I have a page devoted to Drupal books that are available for purchase along with a review on each of them.

If you want to get to know how Drupal works, this is the book for you. This is a lot heavier than the other books I have listed. This book is for developers. From how to write your own module, to how to search other SLQ databases using the Drupal search, this book has it. I am still reading this book (or I should say I am reading it again), as it takes me a few times to fully get the concept of what they are talking about. Don't bother buying this book if you are wanting an overview of Drupal, but if you are a Drupal developer, this book may be for you. Building Online Communities With Drupal, phpBB, and WordPressSubmitted by Drupal Dude on Fri, 08/10/2007 - 9:47am.
This book is basically 3 books in one. The first chapter in on Drupal, the second on phpBB, and the third on Wordpress. Having worked with WordPress before Drupal, I bought it and I was not disappointed. The book does not talk about how the three technologies (Drupal, phpBB, and WordPress) can work together (which they can't for the most part), but describes each one on its own. The main one I was interested in was Drupal, of course. Drupal: Creating Blogs, Forums, Portals, and Community WebsitesSubmitted by Drupal Dude on Thu, 08/09/2007 - 10:43am.
This book is written describing Drupal 4.x, which is old now (5.2 is the current version of Drupal and they are working on 6), but the concepts behind some of the features are still relevant. The book also gives a brief history of Drupal and how it came to be. The graphics are weak in it and it's not an in-depth guide. If you are just starting out with Drupal and want to get an overview of this great CMS system, this book may help. I bought it, read it, and learned from it. I have not gone back to it for much reference though. |
