Books on Drupal
There are a few books on Drupal and they range from everything for the beginner to everything for the advanced. I have a page devoted to Drupal books that are available for purchase along with a review on each of them.

Building Online Communities With Drupal, phpBB, and WordPress
Submitted by Drupal Dude on Fri, 08/10/2007 - 9:47am.
This book is basically 3 books in one. The first chapter in on Drupal, the second on phpBB, and the third on Wordpress. Having worked with WordPress before Drupal, I bought it and I was not disappointed. The book does not talk about how the three technologies (Drupal, phpBB, and WordPress) can work together (which they can't for the most part), but describes each one on its own. The main one I was interested in was Drupal, of course. With great detail the authors describe what Drupal is and it's features (modules). Each major module has its own entry with a nice description of what the module does and examples of how to use it. The graphics are clean and it is easy to read. I have gone back many times to this book for reference. I recommend it if you are new to Drupal. The only issue is that it is an older book, so it is written for Drupal version 4.x. I still find value in it even though it is written for an older version of Drupal. Amazon Book Description Drupal is a full content management system that allows you to create any type of website you desire, from an e-commerce to a community-based site. phpBB enables you to set up a bulletin board or forum. And WordPress is the software of choice for the exploding blog community. All three technologies are based on PHP and MySQL. Building Online Communities with Drupal, phpBB, and Wordpress is authored by a team of experts. Robert T. Douglass recently created the Drupal-powered blog site NowPublic.com. Mike Little is a founder and contributing developer of the WordPress project. And Jared W. Smith has been a longtime support team member of phpBBHacks.com and has been building sites with phpBB since the first beta releases. |
